1.  Smokey’s update: Please know that we have had a few employees that have been out sick. Our rule is that they cannot come to work until they get a negative COVID test. Today one of those out sick tested positive. As a result, we had all of our employees tested. We paid for 28 tests. Most all of those tests were negative. We had positive tests among a few employees out sick that live together or in close proximity. Due to those positive tests, we are now closed. We are sanitizing tonight and tomorrow. We will retest all employees Monday. All employees are effectively quarantined now. Out of an abundance of caution, we want to inform the community of this situation. We are being advised by the proper authorities as to when we can reopen safely. Please know that the safety of our employees and esteemed clients is of utmost importance to us. We will keep you all informed. God Bless us all!
2. Hola amigos, this is Priscilla Duran from Cafe Maria, I just started a new project named “Crescent Moon” to offer free art classes to the children of our community. Thanks to your support we have enough to start the art program which will start next week. 12 Children will take 1 class a week for 4 weeks with Xochitl Rivera from Yolochitil Art Studio. We got donations of materials that we will be able to use in the classes, and we also got money donations that allow us to pay for the classes. So thank you very much for supporting this 4 weeks program.
   
   I’m planning to open a craft club for 5 children by the 1st week of March, this program will last 4 weeks as well, and it will be lead by a teacher who has experience working with children development, her name is Yedid Castro. The classes will have a cost of 3,500 pesos for the 5 children without taking into account the materials.
   
   Besides the money we need to pay for this course, we would appreciate some craft materials that you could drop to Cafe Maria such as: markers, beads, threads, macrame threads, glue, pom poms, feathers, etc.. anything that can be used in a craft project will be well appreciated. If we get enough to open the Craft Club, a total of 17 children will have been beneficiated from this program and will start introducing art to their lives.

1. I am working with our Mayor to improve Aqua de la Costa Road. I am the guy who built the road drag and worked the road after the rain. The plan is to bring in the red dirt that packs well, and cover the rocky areas. Then water and drag the road from the slides to the police casita at the paved road. The Mayor is going to supply the water truck when we drag and two people to pick up rocks behind the drag. I am donating my time and fuel to drag the road. I am asking for donations to help pay for the loads of dirt and the equipment to spread and compact the dirt. Kathy at Baja homes and land has offered to accept donations for me. We are going to start the project Monday. Your donations will be greatly appreciated. Any funds that exceed the amount needed for this first stage will be used to pay for the next grading. I will monitor the road condition and set up a time table for how often we need to water and drag. The Mayor would like to add other dirt roads to the list after evaluating the success and cost of this first step. Thank you in advance for your assistance in this project. Jim Hall

2. Thanks for the many suggestions on how to get rid of bats on the casa. In the end I tried numerous things including the Cleanrth Uktrasonic machine emitting a frequency they don’t like. 1.  VOLUNTEERS WANTED:   The kids of New Creation Kids – Nueva Creaçion Niñas orphanage/alburgue and the volunteer adults who live there have finished prepping an area for the installation of the basketball court which was donated some generous LB folks.  Now we need to get it out of my garage and over to the facility in La Paz for installation.  It will be an early morning departure from LB via caravan on Saturday, February 13th.  Who’s with us?  It’s a great opportunity to check out the facility and get an ‘everything’s alright’ injection from the glowing, happy faces of the children.  Covid protocols will be in place.  We are also looking for volunteers to donate basketballs and to help cover the additional costs of dirt, cement, repairs and a pizza party for the kids afterwards!

10. Tuesday, Feb 2, was Groundhog Day (and my Birthday). On this special day I had a technical problem with my kite and ended up swimming home sin foil board. Much like Ulysses in the Odyssey, this misfortune allowed an adventure and interaction with many wonderful Baja people. I want to send thanks (in chronological sequence) to Sean from BC who towed me and my deflated kite/lines/bar the last 100 meters to the beach south of Exotikite (with his strapless kite foil board!). Brenda Einstein (you know she’s gotta be smart) who gave me a ride in the bed of her pick-up back to Playa Norte (I was a sand covered mess). The Geezers at PN, who sent me off on my search with a verbal bouquet of enthusiastic reassurances and well-wishes.  Luther B, who helped me search for my board and discovered that…Patrizio (and Eric DG) from Vela had corralled my lonely board whilst it was floating happily towards Buena Vista…and Patrizio then proceeded to shepherd said board home to the sand in front of Vela (while also on a strapless kite foil board!). The two LB policeman who made sure not to molest my truck in exchange for a 40 pesos propina. East Cape Recycling continues its community conservation efforts this Thursday, February 4th from 9.00am – 11.00am at Baja’s Resort at East Cape. Please bring your rinsed/crushed plastics, aluminum, metals & cardboard/paper broken down and bundled (sorry, no glass) to the Recycle Center.  Remember to separate your plastics into 3 categories:  Milk and milky/opaque containers, Clear plastics, Colored plastics and lids.  Covid precaution measures remain in place:  wear a mask, maintain 6 feet distance from others when possible and wash your hands at the spigot. Your donation helps cover the transportation of recyclables to La Paz:  $5 US/$100 pesos is the minimum suggested amount per household/month’s recyclables.  Our program works due to the generosity of volunteers. 3. From East Cape Health – Canadian friends: If you have a CONNECTING flight to Canada, your PCR test has to be 72 hours from the time your flight leaves the US for Canada. For example, if your flight from Cabo leaves at 10am but your connection leaves Houston at 7pm, the PCR test has to still be valid for your 7pm flight. ⁣
   Let’s say you have a flight scheduled to leave on Wednesday at 9:30am. If you take your PCR test on Monday at 9:30 am, leave Cabo Wednesday at 9:30am (48 hours later) you may not have your PCR test results yet. You will need an antigen test to get on the plane for the US, receive your PCR test results mid-flight, in time to board your 7pm flight.⁣ Please plan accordingly. We are doing our best to accommodate everyone’s needs but we cannot take responsibility for missed flights.
