In light of the feedback from our posting last weekend, we are as concerned as the next person about the spread of Covid19 . We will keep the community informed with the statistics and spread of this virus in Baja from official sites.  We all agree that the community  deserves to open up and allow people to get back to work and earn a living. We all look forward to the restaurant’s opening and recreational fishing and sports to return.  The post from last Saturday was compiled from information from research as information comes in, pls check out the: CoronaVirus Baja California Sur Situation Room site, the Daily Mexico News and The Whole Enchilada. These sites offer interesting viewpoints, statistics and areas at risk and on the rise. They post daily. This virus is no joking matter. Some of the feedback was accusatory and defenseless, yet others complementary and appreciative for the honest updates. We understand that this may have been upsetting to some, while others are very grateful for the updates and information. There may be softer ways to voice concerns but seriously, we don’t make this up.
Please accept our regret for any misunderstanding. We do our best to be advocates for the health of the community.
La Paz has seen a sharp rise, now up to 325 cases. They have closed the beaches and Malecon and strongly urging the use of masks and social distancing. The hospitals had over 100 admissions last weekend alone.   Cabo has 209 / Loreto, who had zero for the longest time now has 78/ Mulege` 106/ Comandu` 85.  In Senora at the Arizona border, they have closed off the borders from anyone from the US trying to enter into Mexico. Bordering California is also a consideration for closures with a rise of >10,000 cases in So Calif.
Although more people recover than expire, the process can be painful. Especially vulnerable are those with underlying medical conditions, like high blood pressure, pulmonary conditions, diabetes, obesity  and underlying heart disease; this virus targets this vulnerable population with possible secondary blood clots, heart attacks and strokes..  Please revisit this site to see how this virus started and how quickly it spreads;

a.  S.N.A.P.’s New World:   All of us are having to adjust to a different way of socializing and so has S.N.A.P.  With no spay and neuter clinics since January, we became anxious wondering how the dogs and cats were ‘socializing’.  Starting in March, we sent out messages of “Cancellation of Clinics” twice but urging pet owners to please take their pets to Dr. Cristobal for an appointment for FREE spay and neutering. (Dr. Cristobal, Buenos Aires, 612 141 4261).   By May, we saw the explosion of new puppies and kitties (no social distancing) so we needed to step up.  We had only fixed 78 pets by appointments.  So, the beginning of June, we printed 900 fliers to be distributed to every home receiving goodies from the Food Bank; thank you everyone who helped us get this done.
As a result of the fliers and more postings on Face Book, we have now fixed 135 by appointments as of June 22.  This has become our New World of Clinics, and it is working.  Maybe by winter, we might be able to resume with our regular clinics.
It is with sincere appreciation that we recognize two of our community members for stepping up and paying for 130 pets to get fixed.  Thank you to Lucy Darling for your contribution for fixing 30 pets and Thank you to Philip Orr and Anne Milne for fixing 100 pets.  Our goal is to sterilize as many pets as we can to prevent unwanted and diseased dogs and cats.  We can do this because of your donations.  Thank you, S.N.A. Fish for the food bank.  We had a very successful day gathering fresh fish for the food bank!   David K., a long time angler out of Los Barriles, joined me for our 12 hour, 50 mile each way exciting, fun filled day. Even with the 95 years of combined experience fishing our waters, we needed more hands on deck. With just 2 more anglers we could have ended up with 4x’s the amount.  I have developed a very successful system for catching all types of game fish when they are not on the surface biting, however, we needed more bodies to handle the action.  Those of you who know how Tuna and Marlin feed, you understand what I am talking about.  Knowing this, we did not even attempt my system.
Not to worry, we are going again.  Watch here and other posts for the next event.  I want to at least quadruple  our 10 Tuna and 1 Marlin day. …Except for the Marlin, we will only keep 1.
