a.  Watch it!  Yesterday, I stopped for gas at the Pemex near the H hospital in San Jose. Asked for, received 500 pesos of reg. and paid 500 p. The attendant then turned, showing me a 50 peso note and pointed at the 500 on the pump. WRONG BUCKO!  I did not have any 50’s.. He backed down.  Next time I will gladly accept the return of “MY” 50 and just drive away!  Don’t mess with old guys!  CGP La Ribera

She  was a very special woman in many of our lives.She greeted everyone that stepped foot in Patti’s the Hotel Los Pescadores and introduced herself and made everyone feel loved and welcome.She was a genuine loving woman know to many many people in our little town of Los Barriles. She will be missed. We loved her in life and will remember her forever.  We will have more details in a few days.

d.  Hello everyone! Just wanted you to know between the police in LB and La Paz, I was able to get my truck back. Intact. Many meetings with lots of people in LB, two trips to La Paz, and hours ( yes, hours) of paperwork. I won’t go into detail, but I will say that you have to be patient and don’t give up. We are not in a position of strength here, and the process is not at all like the US. Have a good interpreter ( even if you think you can speak decent Spanish ). The process is confusing.  Always have your title in a safe place and a copy of your registration. Take photos of all sides of your vehicles. I believe my current photos really helped locate my truck quickly. Photograph and keep receipts of all your valuables. A recent armed robbery occurred in Los Barriles that I believe all should be made aware of.
Several nights ago, around 6:30 pm, a couple heard a knock on their door in Buenos Aires area. When the man looked out, he did not see anyone. after a moment, he heard a second knock, and went out a different door to look around. When he went around the back of the house, he encountered a latino male, not tall, with a wiry build, armed with a machete. The suspect used zip ties to secure the man’s wrists. He said he wanted money and credit cards. When the man did not return to the house, his wife went out to look for him, and her wrists were also zip tied. They gave him their money and credit cards, and at his insistence, their PIN number. He had at first said he wouldn’t hurt them, but then said if they reported to the police or canceled their cards he would return and kill them.
It cannot be stressed enough that they did exactly the right thing in giving him what he wanted. No amount of money is worth the risk of injury or worse.
In the interest of community safety I feel it is important for everyone to be watchful of any unusual behavior, and Do Not answer your door unless you know for sure who it is.  (I am so sorry to have to print this but we do need to know.  Cheryl)
