They will be collecting cats and kittens at the LB Cancha beside the DIF from 8am until 2pm. The cats will then go to Dr. Gretel’s veterinary clinic for a health check and vaccinations.  All of the rescued cats and kittens will be spayed and neutered.  Cabo Kittens Rescue is a non-profit organization and San Jose’s only cat focused rescue.  If you would like to help support this event, donations of cat food and towels would be very welcomed at the Cancha on Wednesday or if you would like to make a financial donation you can do that through PayPal to

The Machete Bandits attempted another robbery this past Monday.  The incident occurred near Calle de Panteon & Treinta de Febrero during daylight hours. There were two men in the yard and a third posted as a lookout.  Our Mexican neighbor saw the activity and contacted the police.  The police apprehended two of the men, the “look out” ran off.  The police took the two into custody but were released.  (received from a very reliable source but…I do not have any other information.)

Posted on FB Everything Los Barriles by Ron McRae:  Ronald MacRae The bad guys were held in Jail for 24 hours. They did not enter property, which is a crime. They were caught outside the property, a misdemeanor, and were held for 24 hours in our local jail. When they were released the police took them to Buena Vista ( a different County)… and told them not to return to Los Barriles. We have their photos…. they are defiantly NOT locals. ….

a.   FIDO WARNING:  I have come upon a pack of three dogs numerous times in the last five days.  There is a large black lab and two large Rottweiler’s.  They do not have collars.  The lab is a female.  They have been in the arroyo above Buena Vista a few times, approach my dog and then walk away.  Yesterday, 3/19/19, they came through our “park” of Vista Del Mar, jumping over a short wall.  Because there are three, they have the potential to be harmful to other dogs and/or people.  Does anyone know of them, where they live, etc.?  Having them show up on the biking trails i.e. Scotty’s where people may walk curtails my enjoyment of the wonderful trail system.  Appreciate any words of advice/news of where they come from. c.  Courtesy of the Ventana View –  Bird’s-eye View: I am constantly getting asked why are there fewer brown pelicans in La Ventana. They used to be several thousand here, but they are now counted in the low hundreds. This species once almost went extinct in the 50s and 60s due to organochlorine chemicals like DDT thinning their eggshells, but after the ban of those chemicals in the early seventies, they came back big-time. No one knows for certain what is causing the current decline, but biologists in California, where 90 percent of brown pelicans live and breed, have observed that they are simply not reproducing enough to replenish their numbers. Suggested reasons are a severe decline in sardines and anchovies due to increased commercial fisheries, some undefined connection to a rapidly growing aquaculture industry in Mexico, and/or the occurrence of El Nino weather conditions. b.  Break-ins and suspicious activities…

(1)  BEWARE- Tuesday afternoon between 4-5p a man trespassed onto my property in the Buenos Aires area.  He stealthily came through my main gate then through a smaller gate creeping quietly up my stairs.  My four dogs and I were having a siesta. But at the moment he came near to my front door I got up to take laundry downstairs.  I confronted him 15 ft away from my front door.  Upstairs! I started screaming at him and ran to get my taser.  I chased him down the stairs with my dogs in tow zapping my taser.  He kept saying “trabajo” but this guy was NOT looking for work.  As he ran through my gate, my foster pit bull nipping at his heels and me continuing to zap my taser and screaming, he exited.  But what was chilling is that after he closed my gate he looked at me and he smiled. Like I was funny and he didn’t have a care in the world.  He was in his late 30s. Well kempt in a navy Tee shirt that was tucked into his jeans.  He had short hair and a thin mustache.  About 5’8″ and hispanic.  Had he been looking for work he would have asked one of the three crews currently working on my block.  He did not. As a single woman living here I have never before been afraid in our beautiful town. There are so many laborers in town these days that do not hail from these parts and have no investment in this community.  There are at currently at least 25-30 on my short block on any given day.  I see dozens of men being trucked into the area each morning on my walk and hear some even live in the arroyo. Though it may be a bit more expensive, if you are building I encourage you to consider hiring contractors that utilize local talent for they are committed to this community in a way that the day laborers who come from outside the area are not.   (unsigned)

(2)  I have been retired from the highend security and personal protection business for seven years.  I always suggest citizens use the resources at hand to protect their community.  You all have cell phones.  Start photo documenting these workers with your phones.  Take pictures of them in the back of the trucks, in your neighborhoods or where ever.  Those that are accosted can look at these photos and identify their assailants with no threat to themselves.  Everyone that takes pictures can email them to the victims for a virtual lineup.  Say senior and take the photo.  It’s as easy as that.

(3)  We had a very similar experience in Palo Blanco late Tuesday afternoon as well as another neighbor. Sounds like the same brazen Mexican walking through gates and up to front doors, peering into windows and claiming to be looking for work. ( although I thought he was closer to 30 yrs and I don’t recall a mustache. Had very closely shaven hair and well-kept; definitely not dressed for “work”.) May be the same guy that burglarized the Buenos Aires home on Tuesday while they were at the beach. Our contractor said to always get a photo if possible and post online for all to see. What authority (ies) are we supposed to contact when this happens?

c.  Good News!  Here’s a positive, we all need good news. Our renters spent the day in town. When they got back here she noticed her iPhone wasn’t with her…,they retraced their steps, went into all the stores they had stopped..No luck.. what was worse it wasn’t locked, anyone could use it.. She called her carrier they did whatever they do.. Her daughter called the number during the day. Finally, a Spanish speaker answered ,she had the phone. A young man had found it, he turned it over to her. She gave her number for us to call..We called and just meet her at Chapitos Express, iPhone was returned. The young lady didn’t ask for anything, but we gave her a nice thank you. There are really good people here, some bad apples but over all really a great place to live.

a.  GOOD NEWS! Dear Friends. We said YES, after 16 years being together.  Greetings from sunny and windy Bournemouth, England.  Peter and Brigitte Barrett

b.  BEWARE- Tuesday afternoon between 4-5p a man trespassed onto my property in the Buenos Aires area.  He stealthily came through my main gate then through a smaller gate creeping quietly up my stairs.  My four dogs and I were having a siesta. But at the moment he came near to my front door I got up to take laundry downstairs.  I confronted him 15 ft away from my front door.  Upstairs! I started screaming at him and ran to get my taser.  I chased him down the stairs with my dogs in tow zapping my taser.  He kept saying “trabajo” but this guy was NOT looking for work.  As he ran through my gate, my foster pit bull nipping at his heels and me continuing to zap my taser and screaming, he exited.  But what was chilling is that after he closed my gate he looked at me and he smiled. Like I was funny and he didn’t have a care in the world.  He was in his late 30s. Well kempt in a navy Tee shirt that was tucked into his jeans.  He had short hair and a thin mustache.  About 5’8″ and hispanic.  Had he been looking for work he would have asked one of the three crews currently working on my block.  He did not. As a single woman living here I have never before been afraid in our beautiful town. There are so many laborers in town these days that do not hail from these parts and have no investment in this community.  There are at currently at least 25-30 on my short block on any given day.  I see dozens of men being trucked into the area each morning on my walk and hear some even live in the arroyo. Though it may be a bit more expensive, if you are building I encourage you to consider hiring contractors that utilize local talent for they are committed to this community in a way that the day laborers who come from outside the area are not. Perhaps that is controversial to say but I have spoken to so many people who are wondering the same thing I wonder.  What is happening to our beautiful town?  (unsigned)  ((Personally, I would rather post the name/emil of the sender but more importantly, I feel it’s necessary we all pull together and post incidences of this nature. ))

c.  Yesterday a young Mexican man about 30ish walked into my gate and right up my stairs.  Didn’t knock, call or whistle.  I have a doorbell on my gate entrance.  He asked if I had any work.  He had a very surprised look on his face when he saw me.  When I told him no he scampered down to our next door neighbors and did the same.  He was sent away and the next neighbors told him to leave.  He ran away very quickly.  He wore a brown T-shirt, Red cap.   Could possibly be the same person that robbed house in Buenos Aires.  Be aware everyone.  We have a lot of outsiders in our area.  Makes me sad we have to be so suspicious of anyone approaching our happy place.

d.  Cudos to Christian at the Repsol !  Left phone near office while waiting for factura. Called number and he found phone and turned into office. Went back yesterday, from LV, and office manager (lady) said no phone turned in. Christian, complete embarrassed said he would look for it and spoke with my Mexican wife on his phone and between them located the phone, via “find my phone”, at the lady‘s house that runs the office today. When confronted she turned over the phone to him and we recovered it. Please treat him well with tips as he is a stand up guy…for the office lady….?   Maybe a link to the credit card issues?  (unsigned)

e. Drove into COSTCO yesterday and was surprised by the Policea presence on the 4 lane. On the drive home, saw four separate police vehicles which had stopped cars for infractions. Beware the speed limit…..seat belts….etc.  The Lonely Renter
