Turtles turtles turtles! More than 40,000 baby turtles to date have been relocated by the passionate and always hard working Araiza brothers who run the East Cape turtle program. Stretching 13 kilometers from the north side of La Ribera to North Beach, each morning Omar searches for the newly laid turtle nests, Noe doing it in the evenings, carefully removing them and then replicating the nest and placing them at the Turtle Nursery in front of Buenas Aires. As many as 15 nests have been relocated in any given day – an average of 1500 eggs which resemble soft ping pong balls. Turtles typically have only a 1% survival rate. Most of the baby turtle attrition happens from the time they are laid, surviving the six weeks of incubation to hatching, and then making their way to the water. This carefully managed baby turtle intervention could as much as double their survival. We’ll now have turtles turtles turtles for future generations with thanks for the Araiza brothers.

***Carole J. Berry nee Skinner, passed away October 4, 2019, sadly before her 85th birthday, on October 30!  She lived in S.D. for 20 years, where she married  Joe Berry, a fisherman by hobby, and Carole developed a lasting love of El Mar, boats, and Fishing!  After divorcing Joe she moved to San Francisco, then Sausalito, and finally to Napa, CA. then Los Barriles in 2000, ,where she retired from her business as a CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT, and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER.

She soon bought a home @13 Calle Noche Buena, where she has lived for the past 19 years, very close to La Playa!  During her time in Baja, she fished avidly, winning several tournaments; her best effort catching 3 marlin in one week! Carole leaves behind her brother, Steve L. Skinner, his sons, Steve A. and Shane Skinner, all of San Diego, along with Larry, Michael, and Bill Gore, her 1st cousins, and their families, also of S.D., California.

The family plans a memorial for Carole tomorrow,  Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at the EAST CAPE CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP CHURCH, close to the post office, @ 11am, followed by a meal @ 12 noon, and a final send-off at the beach by her house @ 1pm.  We are having  a potluck, if you would like to bring a dish, but we will have a small catered meal of enchiladas, etc., so a dish is not required!  All who knew her are invited to attend.  CHEERS!

b. When you get to Baja, your printer heads may well be clogged if you are using an ink jet printer. The print heads tend to dry out when not in use especially in hot environments. I switched to Brother Laser printers some years ago with great success. Nothing to dry out. It prints only black/white. Plenty of page prints per cartridge. If you need color, you might look at the Epson Eco Tank. The Echo Tanks use large printer tanks that are refillable by the user. Cheap refills as well.

The newest update to the Mac Operating system for Apple Computers called Catalina has been available for about a week.  Caution: as soon as you install Catalina on  your Mac, you will no longer be able to use 32 bit programs. There are numerous security features that will require answering a lot more prompts initially. The file systems have changed for the better increasing security and decreasing vulnerability. a.  Answer:  Here’s the annual, start of season, update for diesel fuel in Mexico.  As the go-to person on this topic for more than a decade, I can confirm that all retail gas stations everywhere in Mexico have been pumping ULSD for more than a year, since April of 2018. Bottom line, the days of sulfur-in-fuel issues for modern diesel owners in Mexico are over.  I haven’t received a single report of sulfur-in-fuel problems in Mexico since late Spring of 2018. It is now common to see Chevron, Esso, Repsol, and other gas stations, as well as Pemex.  The market is open to competition, and some of the stations are actively advertising that they have ULSD. One thing late model diesel owners do need to bring to Mexico is plenty of Diesel Exhaust Fluid, as DEF is hard to come by and fairly expensive in Mexico.

a.  Welcome to the beginning of a New Season.  S.N.A.P. (spay, neuter & prevention) is having our ‘First of the Season’ clinic on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Cancha.  We don’t do clinics during heat of the summer, however, S.N.A.P. continued to fix approximately 95 pets during this time with Dr. Cristobal.  We are so thankful for his dedication to helping us keep the over population of pets down.  Thankful for all of our wonderful volunteers, thankful for the donations from our community, and your continued support to keep these FREE sterilization clinics available to the community.  We are looking forward to seeing you at our clinics.
