  1.   ** CULTIVAR ** A lovely new community project has started in LB. The project is designed to help local kids learn about, grow and potentially sell the food that they grow – vegetables, salads, fruit etc. The project is taking shape FAST! Julie Marks donated land. Susan and Sten Thorborg bought and donated a huge growing tunnel. Victor (Handyman Mantenimiento) and his crew disassembled and reassembled the tunnel on the land (on the paved road to Colina del Sol). Gardening tools have already started to be donated thanks to groups such as Teams Humanity Baja (Jo and Mike Dibblee). The next step is to set up the raised beds, assemble gardening equipment, gather seeds/cuttings etc. Sam Green and Priscilla Durán are in talks with the schools. If you would like to volunteer or perhaps donate, please leave your donations at the Ronival Los Barriles office on Costa Brava – opposite Cozy’s Cafe and Beans+Rice. The plan is to be ready for the Fall, so the next few months will be focused on getting everything in shape.   3. Cattle Drive!  Leonaro, La Capilla, Los Mártires, Buena Vista, Los Barriles,  al Norte. There is a severe shortage of food in the countryside for the cattle. Additionally, the cost of alfalfa has increased considerably this year. We have organized a fund drive to supply ranchers in need with alfalfa and feed for their livestock. A cow usually will eat a half a bale of hay per day. Alfalfa runs about 230 pesos per bale.  It’s expensive.Please make your donación at the office of LB Properties, across from the Smokehouse in Los Barriles.   2. My name is Chris Llewellyn. My wife Debbey and I are emotionally involved in helping the cows (what would Baja be without the cows?). We contacted our accountant, Betto Cota 624-is 124-8282 LBpropertyservices@gmail.com who is a rancher himself. He knows the owners of the cows and he is also concerned. He thinks there are about 30 or so cows. One bale of hay will supplement one cow’s diet for three or four days. Each bale costs 230 pesos. If we come together as a group we may be able to elevate the health of the cows so they are not so susceptible to disease from flies, mosquitos etc. We are willing to donate monthly to help feed the cows. IMPORTANT VACCINE INFORMATION

Everyone please understand when we send out flash messages to the public regarding vaccines it is meant for eligible people. We have said right from the start the eligible people are those with a CURP# by being a permanent or temporary ( in some case) resident and those over 60. The folio number ( on-line)  is not required but your residency card with the CURP# on it is required.  
Some provisional CURP’s were given in error.  Please do not go to the vaccination clinics unless you have your residency card. Otherwise you are taking a vaccine away from a Mexican or a permanent resident who lives here full time and can not get the vaccine in US. Please help our community to get everyone vaccinated.  We cant if all vaccines are used up by people who will travel to US and could get it there. Mexicans can not get it anywhere else but here! Please do not take up the time of the volunteers and try to get a vaccine you are not entitled to….it wastes everyone’s time and hurts our chances of herd immunity in our communities.

  1.   Many of these cows are dying of starvation. No rain this entire past year sadly means no food. The ranchers are not culling their herds to lessen their obligation and buy hay, as hay is very expensive right now. $200 pesos and more a bale.(Which is the most we’ve ever paid here at Baja’s Awesome Beach Rides for our well-loved and well-fed horses). Unfortunately, it’s very, very sad and disheartening, but it’s the hard facts of life for Baja cows and ranchers. Also, I would not expect any rancher to attend to a dead cow. You could try and encourage them, but likely with no response. It takes about two months with the buzzards doing their work to alleviate the smell and most of the meat. Again, the hard life of a Baja cow and it’s rancher. And I am sorry to share this tough news, as I am an horse and cow lover to my bones, Theresa

COVID

  1.  The LB vaccination clinic is to be rescheduled for next week. As soon as I hear something I’ll send out a “flash” notice. According to the FB LB Delegacion today, you can pre-register at the DIF office next to the Cancha Mon-Fri 8am-3pm, bring your CURP card.

2. For all our friends who don’t qualify for the vaccine here in Mexico: We flew to Texas yesterday, got the vaccine and returned to Los Barriles -3pdark. There is apparently a lot of vaccine in Texas and they are not picky about giving it out. We’re in our 50s with relatively minor autoimmune issues. Specific rules can be found on the Texas dpt of Health web site. We chose a clinic near the airport with the vaccine we wanted (JandJ) and used Uber (10 minutes and $20 each way). The clinic we went to had an online application and a follow up scheduling phone call. We used our passports for ID, our NV phone number and the address of a friend in Texas. The staff was super friendly. We didn’t mention how short our Texas residency was (2.5 hrs) and they didn’t ask! The vaccines have a shelf life!
