Sad news. Gary Field, longtime resident of Los Barriles, passed away of a heart attack a few days ago. He was happily living in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and loved the beautiful town. His three sons have been notified of his passing. Gary will be lovingly missed. Lynda Tracewell

    After investigation it was found that the owner of the Storage compound located on the La Paz airport road was visited by representants of the State of Baja California Sur Secretary of Finances and administration. They did a precautionary seizure of all goods on the premisses including vehicles. Why? Because the owner of the Storage compound had on his property goods and vehicles which were not imported. Comment to the Iberostar Company that Gringo Gazette mentioned 2/23/23 by Jim Dunn: For what it’s worth, Iberostar, in conjunction with Hansa(another Spanish company), owned the property just north of Cabo Pulmo. As you drove to Cabo Pulmo you could see the miles of chain link fence on the east, along the road. They stopped construction during the financial crisis of ‘08. They also were hit with a lot of environmental concerns. They may have sold that property and bought something else, or bought out Hansa. The only other big project I know of, is the land near the ‘flattops’ on the road to Rancho Leonero. The property was bought by the same group that developed Costa Palmas. The company, called Liongate, is the development arm of Bill Gates, the major stockholder of Microsoft. The East Cape is going to see major development as Costa Palmas is the major tenant showing that this a safe and prosperous area. The good news for Los Barriles is the lack of infrastructure, especially water delivery. Everybody talks about desalination, which works on a small level, but on a large scale there are serious problems as to what to do with the salt.
    The even better news is that we will be long gone before any of this happens.

Note: Oh my, I received so many precious responses to “fishing”. Reminds me of the old BPE days when I knew almost everybody and every email was “no jokes, no rumors, no opinions, no venting and no whining just fun facts about the original purpose of our beloved East Cape. My first trip to La Paz was l986 where I met my David because our Dads fished the Baja together out of San Diego for years. I could go on and on but KISSS, keep it Short, Sweet and Simple! All those floating devices on the horizon, reported 60 to 70 had a ball fishing for mainly yellowtail. Thank you for all the responses and LOVE! BPE Cheryl

Greeting SNAPSTERS!

Rita and I want to send all of you a huge thank you for your help this past Sunday.  This was our first time being in charge of organizing this event.  After a three year break because of the pandemic we think as a team we were able to dust off those cobwebs and get back to work.  We want to thank everyone who volunteered for the clinic or worked behind the scenes bagging pet food, loading the trailer, checking equipment, donating water, snacks and sandwiches and our financial donors who made it all possible. 

When hosting a clinic you really don’t know how many owners are going to bring their pets to us.  We hope for at least 50 and pray we don’t go over 100.  We were pleased we had a total of 49 dogs and cats who got pampered by all of you while they recovered this past week. Some of our experienced clinic SNAPSTER’s were surprised we didn’t have more animals.  Honestly, Rita and I were not surprised.  Our post-pandemic model allows Mexican pet owners to bring their animals directly to the office for surgery allowing us to increase the number of animals spayed and neutered.  On average SNAP covers the cost for about 100 animals per month. Adding in community clinics like this past weekend will get us closer to our goal of 1,500 animals in 2023. 

The safety of our volunteers and animals is our top priority and are pleased to say there were no injuries (other than some sore muscles) or animal fatalities.  This was possible because of the care and attention you gave each of the animals in our care and your ability to quickly work as a team with each other. 

What’s next?  Well we are going to bask in the success of this clinic for a moment, make some adjustments to the things we think could have worked better and then start planning how we can educate and help some of our outlying communities.  As always, Rita and I are open to feedback on how things worked this past Sunday so we can improve in the future.
