d.  This is a community safety announcement.
A recent armed robbery occurred in Los Barriles that I believe all should be made aware of.
Several nights ago, around 6:30 pm, a couple heard a knock on their door in Buenos Aires area. When the man looked out, he did not see anyone. after a moment, he heard a second knock, and went out a different door to look around. When he went around the back of the house, he encountered a latino male, not tall, with a wiry build, armed with a machete. The suspect used zip ties to secure the man’s wrists. He said he wanted money and credit cards. When the man did not return to the house, his wife went out to look for him, and her wrists were also zip tied. They gave him their money and credit cards, and at his insistence, their PIN number. He had at first said he wouldn’t hurt them, but then said if they reported to the police or canceled their cards he would return and kill them.
It cannot be stressed enough that they did exactly the right thing in giving him what he wanted. No amount of money is worth the risk of injury or worse.
In the interest of community safety I feel it is important for everyone to be watchful of any unusual behavior, and Do Not answer your door unless you know for sure who it is.  (I am so sorry to have to print this but we do need to know.  Cheryl)

a.  The Agua de la Costa road project the Perry’s started was finished this past Saturday north of the blacktop road.  Rueben Cota was running the backho, Rueben’s two workers along with Bill were removing the smaller rocks and filling the holes with fill dirt/gravel. Caesar Jordaan and Dave Freeman were assisting with the traffic control. The project on Saturday cost 5400p. The Perry’s paid, if you would like to give a donation please feel free to drop it off to Homes and Land of Baja to Kathy.  We want to thank those who gave a donation towards the original cost of the project. The dirt road is definitely a smoother ride with the road work and the grader.  Thanks Mayor Luis for your support of the project.

a.  I participated in the Los Barriles clean up today by walking around our neighborhood picking up trash.  There is a vast amount of construction going on in our community. Most of the workmen eat breakfast and lunch on site.  As a result,  a lot of food garbage is simply left on the ground and ends up blowing around the local neighborhoods for years. If you are having construction done, please ….. ask your contractor to supply a large ‘Trash Can” and ask his workers to please put all garbage  in the can rather than leaving an unsightly, trashy looking neighborhood.  (unsigned)

More sad news:  Linda Louise Toan  December 9, 1948-February 19, 2019–  Written by Don, Linda’s husband:   It is with great sadness that I tell you that the love of my life for 42 years, a beautiful woman in every way, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 19 at 1:15 P.M. in Portland, Oregon.   She was surrounded by friends and family and fell to a myriad of complications due to a pneumonia that invaded her lungs in March of 2018, at our winter home in Los Barriles, Mexico.  She fought valiantly through stays at 7 hospitals and received great care from scores of physicians and nurses.  Her last request was to wish all of you her hope that you live happy and prosperous lives, find peace where there is no peace, joy in our magnificent world, and the miracles and memories she knew.  Please pray for her soul, a treasure lost to the ages..

footprints on our hearts,
and we are never the same.

b.   Douglas Williams Celebration of Life.  Thank you all for your amazing love and support over the past few days.   Doug has so many friends here in Los Barrilles (and around the world) and had touched us all in varying degrees. With that said, I want to let you know there will be a celebration of life event.  It will be at least a couple weeks out but wanted everyone to know it is in the works. The plan will be to visit each one of Doug’s favorite Los Barriles hangouts – Lazy Daze, Smokey’s and Vagos, where he so enjoyed his friends and to honor all of you and the special relationships that were made over the years. I will send out an update on both Everything Los Barrilles and BPE as soon as we sure up a date. Thank you for your love support and patience through this difficult time.

…… In the end, we all become stories and Knox Hambley was an anthology of epic proportions.  To know him was truly a great and rollicking adventure, an enduring love story, a hero’s journey and above all else – when you were the one experiencing a chapter of the magic jubilation his exuberant, carefree, joyous spirit created – a story you never wanted to end.

On March 12, 1950, Knox was born in the sign of water (and it is true, it is there that he felt his best) and as all who knew him can attest to, Knox spent just short of 69 years forging friendships and ensuring that the sound of his laughter, the generosity of his spirit and the best of himself was deeply imbedded in those he called his familiar, family or friend.  Throughout his many lifetime achievements as a son, brother, friend, father, husband and within his longstanding service to the telephone company (both professionally and playfully), his determination to see Tween Lakes Resort stay within the family of friends he had created there, and his unforgettable presence in the kiteboarding community of Los Barriles, the greatest gift he both gave and received, the richness that his life was built upon and the legacy he leaves behind for all of us is this: the enduring importance of fun, love and friendship.

No matter what the weather or where he was, this free range human we call Knox, would don his superhero costume of a t-shirt, shorts and flip flops and embark upon his life’s work of imparting and infusing as much fun, humour, joy, happiness and love upon all those who crossed his path.  HIs absence in our lives will be deeply felt but he will live on in our remembrances of him and because of him, in our own laughter and joy.

Keeping to his dead leaf theory, Knox’s earthsuit was cremated in his standard garb of a t-shirt, shorts and flip flops accompanied by a picture of his sweetheart, a burger and onion rings, an assortment of licorice, some heartfelt reading material and a butter tart.

A celebration of the stories he weaved among those he loved and an honouring of his friendship will take place in Los Barriles, Baja California later this month where his ashes will be returned to the wind and to the sea.

To all those who have been filled with the deep reverberating sound of his laughter resonating within them, Knox’s wish is that as he goes onto his next great adventure, in lieu of flowers or sadness, you make a donation in remembrance of him to your own self to slow down, relax, have fun, share a story or two of how he touched your life and enjoy the true beauty of your own life, live it well, share it with others, and with great love, invest in each other so that you have the richness and reciprocity of friendship such as he did.
