We have more than the grand daddy of all markets in San Jose, you
know. We have others that are easier to get in and out of.
Los Barriles has a market every Saturday until next spring. It
offers various food products and fresh, organic produce. They’re
looking for more vendors with food and any ideas to enhance this new

And Todos Santos is trying to get their own farmers market up and
running. Reed King, a local retired guy, is behind it. Hotel
California is letting him use their empty lot just to the north of
the hotel, and Reed is selling spots to vendors for 100 pesos a
table, bring your own table. Hey, what do you want for eight bucks,
a card table too? Not going to happen. But there is a discount
program for frequent sellers.
Since Odile tossed most of the Todos Santos veggies out to sea,
there aren’t in this very moment a lot of farmers with excess
produce on their hands, so he’s filling in the vendor spots with
people with anything to sell which makes it an eclectic lot every
Friday between 9 to 1. He’s got people with jams and jellies, fresh
ground coffee, American beauty products, and lip balm. Lip balm?
Geeze, an entire table top with lip balm? Reed tells us this is
special lip balm. For special lips, one presumes.
Can you stand one more market? There’s the Pedregal market Saturday
and Wednesday mornings, at the back door entrance, near the school.
It’s small, but handy.
Anywho, there you have it, some alternative markets.

The First Annual Sawyers
Baseball Camp was held Saturday, Nov. 22nd in Campamento. We had 49
kids, mostly from Campamento and also a few from Santiago. The DIF
brought in a road grader and flattened the soccer field and set up
some tents. After breaking down into age groups, we got started! We
had so much fun watching the little kids learn the game! We saw lots
of talent with the older kids, several with real raw talent that
could easily be developed! After having the three teaching sessions
and lunch we played scrimmage games....broken out by age groups. The
youngest were adorable to watch, and watching the older kids taking
it so seriously, let us know that they do like the game. We had a
crowd of parents watching and helping out as needed with the games
and translating.
The word has gotten around the Eastcape area and there
is a lot of excitement about the possibility of getting camps in
their town. Three neighborhoods/towns are already planning on
starting youth teams to play each other. We will be able to gear up
all three areas so they can have the teams.
This could not have been done without the three coaches
and volunteers that came out to work with the kids and help make
this camp happen and smiles on the kids face appear! We want to also
put out a special thanks to the Art Assoc. for helping us get this
camp going and their support. Look to the BPE for a facebook page
for pictures of the camp in the next week or so. We hope more of you
can be involved with future camps and keep collecting the equipment.
