KB Brigham’s friends and family will gather at 4:30pm on Nov 1st to say goodbye and celebrate her life on the beach north of Los Barriles where the twin spire rock formation is located. c.  Correction on the CFE rate increase. Didn’t realize there’s summer and winter DAC rates now. Based on that the rate increase was only 10.25%. The payback on our solar panels at DAC rates is 5 years (31 months or around 20%/year). d.  ROAD REPORT HIGHWAY 5:  Driving through Constitution now. Yesterday Oct 15 Guerrero Negro to just south of Mulege great conditions. Day before just South of Puertecitos on Hwy 5 to Guerrero Negro good from south of Gonzaga Bay to Hwy 1 and on to Guerrero Negro. Day before that Yuma to just South of Puertecitos. Road really took hit from TS Rosa a bit before Puertecitos and between Gonzaga Bay. Wow! Semi-trucks and cars making it through but be careful.

e.  For those of you driving down the peninsula you may want to pay attention to the weather sites. Hurricane Rosa is going to have a big impact. Also the Los Cabos area roads are a mess from normal rains. Piles of dirt and standing water everywhere. Additionally, use the new Chevron station near the airport at your own risk. Chris White

f.  (1) Just as a reminder, there are three major cell phone providers in Baja, Telcel, Telefonica and AT&T.  Service should available to all US phones through those providers since they have cooperative use agreements in both countries.  That doesn’t mean you get free calls, it means you will have a connection if you are in range of the towers.  Some older Verizon and Sprint phones use CDMA technology and may not work.  Before you head south, make sure your calling plans include Mexico.

(2) A great way to avoid a confrontation with the Police is a Dash Camera mounted on your front windshield.  Most cameras record all the action on the road but also may record voices as well as speed.  If you are stopped and believe you have not committed any violation, the Dash Cam will be your proof.  You may also let the officer know that his entire conversation is being recorded.

(3) If you need a backup computer, I recommend a Chromebook.  There is a wide variety of models under $200.  These computers are great for banking, email, web surfing.  They are virtually unhackable for banking.

(4) Amazon will release the “Fire TV Recast” on 14 Nov.  With the addition of an external antenna, the device will act as a DVR recording all local programming that you have scheduled.  There is NO monthly charge since it is recording the free over-the-air TV signals.  You will be able to watch those recorded programs on all mobile devices.  With the addition of the Fire TV it should be available on the normal TV.  Since it has not been release, I don’t know if we can watch the programming in Baja!!!  Here is a link to check details:  Link: http://a.co/d/ef9ys6n      thecomputerguy@usa.com

a. ROAD REPORT:  Road report highway 5 – We are recommending not to take this road south of San Felipe – Two members have reported yesterday not to take this road. South of San Felipe the road goes from bad to worse and the dirt section after Coco’s is horrible. Rick Dyer

Road conditions as of 9/18/2018 My wife and I just traveled from San Felipe down Mexico 5 towards Coco’s corner over to Hwy 1 North. Lots of road construction starting just south of South Beach all the way to Puertecitos. There is a detour as the road is being completely replaced with culverts under the road eliminating all the dips for water runoff. You will travel right next to the construction but it is very bumpy and dusty. The road south is nice once you pass Puertecitos and then is really bad again as you cross from Coco’s to Hwy 1. Seems like they just stopped the construction of the new bridges. Driving south of San Felipe in a Motor-home or car is not recommended. Scott and Patti Harmier info@vagabundos.com
