a.  Boats going between las palmas and north beach are traveling closer and closer to shore. This is particularly dangerous in the morning, when people are swimming and paddling. Last year there was a severe bodily injury by Costa Brava when a boat ran over a swimmer. Please stay outside the boat line! You may take a few more minutes to arrive at your destination, but we will all be safer!!  (unsigned)

b.  Following my wife’s biking accident here in March I am pleased to report that she is back biking up and down ‘ the road to nowhere’ complete with her new artificial shoulder . We would like to thank again all those that helped us after the accident and ask drivers on this route to be patient with cyclists and to slow down a bit and give us plenty of room when passing by on this pot holed road.

Side by side and quad drivers please stay on the land side of active rigging and launching areas. If you see someone launching or self launching from the back of a vehicle, please have patience and wait for us to be done. If you run over our bars and lines on the ground, they can be damaged by your tires. These run around $500 to replace. There is a good road behind our parked vehicles, please use it to bypass us.

We had an incident at North Beach by El Geckos today with side by sides. Today was crazy windy and that makes our entry &exit even more dangerous! We had a full component of kiters on the beach rigging and launching when we had 2 large vehicles want to come through. One was gracious and went behind our vehicles and the other plowed through, throwing profanity right and left as we tried to explain our issue. I hope everyone cares about our safety and this was a one off. Our families care about our safety and we care about yours. We are your neighbors. We are your community. d.  Tracey Lewis and The Barkery – many concerned people have been asking about Tracey’s condition.  Tracey is our wonderful community dog trainer, co-founder of The Los Barriles Dog Show and owner of The Barkery (dog and cat treats).  Tracey is really not well but she is soldiering on and keeps herself busy as much as her tiredness will allow.  The good news is that she is still selling liver treats, dog treats and liver jerky but now EXCLUSIVELY only at Joe’s Deli in Los Barriles.  She will not be at the Saturday Market.  A lot of people have offered to help with Tracey’s treatment but Tracey asks if you can support her by purchasing the treats in Joe’s Deli, that’s all she asks.  Thank you everybody.

a.  The other day I/ my boat was inspected by various Mexican Govt officials when I returned from fishing at the La Ribera Marina. They wanted fishing licenses, Boat docs and temp import papers. AlsoI was told it was mandatory to maintain a list of days fished, list of fisherman and a total of type and number of fish caught each day. My boat is for private use and not for charter. While I can communicate in Spanish I’m not exactly clear of what’s needed. I have searched the Mexican fishing regulations and cannot find reference to that. Twenty four years ago Helen Comber put a camper on her truck, grabbed my eldest sister and headed south from her high, Colorado mountain log home for an adventure down the Baja. After raising 6 kids, successfully owning three diverse businesses, she was looking for life’s next chapter. She has spent every fall, winter and springtime since, building her palapa casita at our East Cape Casas & RV Resort 17 years ago and embracing deeply a beautiful, Baja lifestyle. With her welcoming, open arms personality coupled with a graciousness and fun mindset, her home was the heartbeat and gathering place for our community. For nearly 92 years Helen has been fearless, loved fiercely, lived life through its immense joys and sorrows with a grateful, loving heart. On October 15 Helen stretched for the heavens and lit a star on her way and we are now navigating life without her constant, knowing presence. I believe the greatest gift this daughter could have was to be born Helen Comber’s child. She wove the fibers of my being and has shepherded me throughout my life. b.  Fake Bills Alert: I was shopping in La Paz and was shown that one of the 50 peso notes I tried to pay with was a counterfeit bill. The store owner said there is a real problem with the $50 and $200 peso notes. You can easily see it is fake by rubbing something on the picture of the face – the ink rubs off ( like a scratch ticket). I have not heard of the problem, so I thought I would pass it on. c.  The East Cape Guild will hold their November general meeting on Wednesday, November 14 at 11:00 at La Playa restaurant.  This meeting is open to all community members, male & female…yes, we have had some men join our group in recent years.  The meeting is never longer than one hour and will cover our upcoming events, Baja Ha Ha on November 24 and Monte Carlo Night on February 22, 2019.  The meeting is followed by lunch.
