Sad News: I am sad to let you know that Bill Ziething passed while in Home Hospice, December 15, 2022.I am comforted in knowing he is at peace and without pain. We enjoyed the Buena Vista-Los Barriles area for 20 years, beginning 1993 first in La Capilla; then building our home in Playa Victoria. Bill was an accomplished fisherman, woodworker, cabinet and furniture maker. He later partnered with my daughter Karen Kennedy to open East Cape Tackle in the late 1990’s. Bill enjoyed many years with our granddaughter, Grace Kennedy – quad rides, games, puzzles, with lots of love. We then were blessed with granddaughter, Krystal Kennedy, who was able to join us for Christmas 2012 and a swim with the dolphins.Baja will forever be in both our hearts. Lyn Ziething

Sad news:

Gary Wright passed away in Oregon on December 8 th after a short battle with cancer. Gary and Diane
visited Los Barriles, fell in love, and bought a condo. As their love for the Community and friendships
grew, along with their stuff, they had a home built. For many years the harsh winters in Oregon drew
them to Los Barriles. Gary was a man who treated all people equally, whether they be a long-time
friend or a new acquaintance. He always took the time to stop, talk, and listen. If you ever ran into
Gary, you most likely met up with his constant companion Midget. Gary was always willing to give of his
time, knowledge, and funds to help others and the Community. Gary was a kind man, not easily
angered, boastful, nor judgmental. He was an avid storyteller and loved to share his “useless
information”. Gary is sorrowfully missed by his family and friends in both Oregon City and Los Barriles.
He was a good man.

  1.   Cortez Rescue is extremely sad to announce that, for the first time in our history, we have had to euthanize one of our rescue dogs for behavioral issues. Last week, a dog unexpectedly and with no warning injured a Cortez Rescue volunteer. This was a multiple bite incident. The volunteer was treated for their injuries and is recovering at their home in Buena Vista. We send all of our hugs, best wishes and thanks to our volunteer who was injured, and to our other volunteers who helped out. The safety of our volunteers, staff and the general public is our priority. While we have a ‘no euthanize’ policy favoring rehabilitation of dogs, on this occasion, the board of directors believed it was in the best interest of everyone that the dog was put to sleep.
