Via the Gringo Gazette: On Friday, February 24, Mexicans celebrate Flag’s Day. To honor the occasion, the Los Cabos government is inviting everyone born from 1969 to 2004 to an uphill pedestrian race at Buenavista on the East Cape. The race will start at 7:30 am and will end up at the top of the Flag’s hill, that tall flagpole in the curve before reaching Buenavista, if you are coming from San Jose del Cabo. Information at San Jose del Cabo’s sports complex or at the Santiago government delegation.
This season’s Women’s Conference entitled, “Living with Purpose” is coming up Thursday, March 23 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm and Friday, March 24 from 9:00am to 2:30pm. The Lack Ladies will be joining us again to lead the worship for this conference. The location is at East Cape Christian Fellowship. You can sign up there or sign up via email at pjkara@yahoo.com. Greeting SNAPSTERS!

Rita and I want to send all of you a huge thank you for your help this past Sunday. This was our first time being in charge of organizing this event. After a three year break because of the pandemic we think as a team we were able to dust off those cobwebs and get back to work. We want to thank everyone who volunteered for the clinic or worked behind the scenes bagging pet food, loading the trailer, checking equipment, donating water, snacks and sandwiches and our financial donors who made it all possible.

When hosting a clinic you really don’t know how many owners are going to bring their pets to us. We hope for at least 50 and pray we don’t go over 100. We were pleased we had a total of 49 dogs and cats who got pampered by all of you while they recovered this past week. Some of our experienced clinic SNAPSTER’s were surprised we didn’t have more animals. Honestly, Rita and I were not surprised. Our post-pandemic model allows Mexican pet owners to bring their animals directly to the office for surgery allowing us to increase the number of animals spayed and neutered. On average SNAP covers the cost for about 100 animals per month. Adding in community clinics like this past weekend will get us closer to our goal of 1,500 animals in 2023.

The safety of our volunteers and animals is our top priority and are pleased to say there were no injuries (other than some sore muscles) or animal fatalities. This was possible because of the care and attention you gave each of the animals in our care and your ability to quickly work as a team with each other.

What’s next? Well we are going to bask in the success of this clinic for a moment, make some adjustments to the things we think could have worked better and then start planning how we can educate and help some of our outlying communities. As always, Rita and I are open to feedback on how things worked this past Sunday so we can improve in the future.

Mike and Ruth Update: East Cape Health transferred Mike in our ambulance from H+ hospital to the tarmac in Cabo San Lucas. The flight was on time and very professional. Aeromedevac, affiliated with UCSD transferred Mike to the ICU and he is under the best treatment. As a vet, he will be admitted to the VA hospital in LaJolla as soon as his needs are thoroughly assessed. The VA has a brand new spinal cord center and he will receive top-notch care with intensive physical therapy. Note: Well, I appoigize for the multiple postings of Tuesday’s BPE. This time it wasn’t my fault! The server we use had a glitch. Hopefully, the problem has been fixed but if not just read the first issue and delete the rest. Cheryl

Alert: Break in/ Spa Buena Vista. Last night someone came into our house through a closed but apparently not clicked and locked window. First he tried our gate. About 1:40. Then he must have walked down the beach and came in thru a kitchen window. Our dogs woke us up barking and were all over it. But he had been in the house for a few minutes because we can see what he looked through. Drawers etc. And he had carried a couple of small things outside through the front sliding door. He left those items because my little 4 pound wolf cub (chihuahua) chased his ass out the door. He never found my purse thank God. And didn’t take our cell phones even though we could tell he had been by each of them because of the things that had been looked through or moved. He took a little square basket that had a few things in it Took a pair of binoculars even though two more were right there. He also took our front door house key that was on the table. Not sure what else. We found a few of our things out front on the patio. Like he took them outside to look at them or something. Or the dogs chased him off so he left these things behind. Andrew thinks he was looking for money. Glad my Ring got a picture of him. He tried to dodge the ring picture but mine had a really wide angle and caught his face pretty darned good. Also found out that they stole a car here in Spa as well that night. . I have been here in Los Barriles for 3 weeks. I have an iPhone 13. I have Wi-Fi at the home I’m staying at. After 10 days suddenly I have lost contact with the cell tower. Verizon is my carrier and I have unlimited talk and text with 5G service. I keep losing cell service . I have been able to go in and change my settings to TelCel but it doesn’t always connect.
