DISCUSSIONS – ANSWERS – ANNOUNCEMENTS
a. Courtesy the Ventana View – Our neighbors to the north: Last year on the road in La Paz between Sorianas and the auto wrecker many gringos were pulled over by a guy on a powerful green sport bike impersonating a police officer. He is back but the bike is a darker color. I was pulled over last Saturday 1 block east of Sorianas on Colosio. He said I went thru a flashing yellow light and asked for my drivers license and said I would have to pay a 2000 peso fine at the police station on Monday. I offered 500 but he would only accept 1000 pesos as my drivers license had expired. It was a mistake to pay him. He wore a dark blue jumpsuit, helmet and mask over his nose and mouth which made him impossible to identify. Nowhere on his bike or uniform was the word police. The lawyer who helped me yesterday to get a Mexican drivers license told me to remember 2 things. Never give a policeman money and never give him your drivers license. Carry a clear photocopy of both sides of your license and give that to him. Beware of this guy. Anyone else who got stopped can send me an email to jrosene@shaw.ca and I will add up the number of other victims.
b. I was asked if we had an emergency (911) number to call the local police here on the East Cape. The incident was someone, probably high on drugs or drunk, but nevertheless, middle of the night yelling outside this person’s house.. Frightening to say the least.
c. Baja’s January Morning Skies will be moonless through Saturday, Jan.19, from 5:15 to 5:45am, and provide the year’s best chance to see the smallest constellation (Southern Cross), nearest star system, largest globular cluster, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th brightest stars, and a near conjunction of Venus and Jupiter. f. I’ve had several emails about security on the East Cape. I am willing to open up discussions regarding police assistance in time of an emergency, numbers to call, how to start up neighborhood watches, etc. Chime in with info & suggestions.

a. I was stopped by what looked like a cop while riding my quad in town. In Spanish he told me I must wear a helmet. I’ve lived here 20 years and this is new to me. Anyone else? (answer to the BPE is OK)
