Twenty four years ago Helen Comber put a camper on her truck, grabbed my eldest sister and headed south from her high, Colorado mountain log home for an adventure down the Baja. After raising 6 kids, successfully owning three diverse businesses, she was looking for life’s next chapter. She has spent every fall, winter and springtime since, building her palapa casita at our East Cape Casas & RV Resort 17 years ago and embracing deeply a beautiful, Baja lifestyle. With her welcoming, open arms personality coupled with a graciousness and fun mindset, her home was the heartbeat and gathering place for our community. For nearly 92 years Helen has been fearless, loved fiercely, lived life through its immense joys and sorrows with a grateful, loving heart. On October 15 Helen stretched for the heavens and lit a star on her way and we are now navigating life without her constant, knowing presence. I believe the greatest gift this daughter could have was to be born Helen Comber’s child. She wove the fibers of my being and has shepherded me throughout my life. She has been our matriarch, our model, created ‘familyism’ with her own family and added to it from those needing family love. Her tribute is posted at www.forevermissed.com/helen-comber/#about. b.  Fake Bills Alert: I was shopping in La Paz and was shown that one of the 50 peso notes I tried to pay with was a counterfeit bill. The store owner said there is a real problem with the $50 and $200 peso notes. You can easily see it is fake by rubbing something on the picture of the face – the ink rubs off ( like a scratch ticket). I have not heard of the problem, so I thought I would pass it on. I really will watch my bills from now on!  (Unsigned)

c.  The East Cape Guild will hold their November general meeting on Wednesday, November 14 at 11:00 at La Playa restaurant.  This meeting is open to all community members, male & female…yes, we have had some men join our group in recent years.  The meeting is never longer than one hour and will cover our upcoming events, Baja Ha Ha on November 24 and Monte Carlo Night on February 22, 2019.  The meeting is followed by lunch. This is an opportunity to meet members of our community and get involved in helping to keep our young people in high school.  For over 20 years the Guild has been working to improve our community and having fun doing it.  If you would like more information please contact Jill Borggreve at b2jborg@gmail.com.

d.  Our beloved Rodrigo has had a relapse as well as a minor car accident. He has no major injuries, however he will be in San Jose del Cabo under doctor care and supervision. He will be unable to work for the unforeseeable future so any help you can give while he is going through this difficult period would be very much appreciated.
