a.   Baja Night Sky #123 — View the planets Mercury & Venus after sunset, Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn before sunrise, and a bright Iridium flare Friday evening.March 8, 2018 – On any clear evening this week you can find Venus and Mercury low in the west after sunset.  Venus is the brighter of the two and sets first. Mercury is just two degrees above Venus at the 2 o’clock position. Here in El Sargento, both planets set behind the mountains to the west by about 7pm.  The best time to spot these elusive worlds is between 6:40 and 6:55 pm just above the mountain peaks.  On Friday evening there will be a bright Iridium flare just after Venus and Mercury set. Find the constellation Orion high in the South by 7pm. The three equally-spaced stars of the hunter’s belt point down to Sirius, the brightest start in the night sky.  Iridium 80 will flare close to Sirius between the star and the constellation. Flare time in 7:04:03 pm.  The bright star far below Sirius is Canopus, second brightest star in the night sky. Notice how it twinkles in many colors and even seems to jump back and forth. This natural refraction of starlight passing through lower layers of the atmosphere results in the star being reported more often than most as a UFO.

b.  For those considering flying their dog home from Los Cabo’s airport be aware that United Airlines tried to charge me $450 for a 30 lb. dog on  a 3 hour flight.   (unsigned)
