Note:  First I would like to say thank you for all the well wishes these past two weeks.  To be clear, I had an old fashion chest cold combined with an allergic medication reaction.  Not a fun combo but all seems to be headed in the right direction now.
As for the BPE, I will concentrate on events, the calendar and important issues for the next few days until it all gets back on track.  I am deleting most of the 450+ emails so please re-send your notices.

** POISONING OF DOGS **
Last week an emergency meeting was held with the Police Commandante and his team, The Delegado, local veterinarians Dr Gretel and Dr Cristobal, ALMA and community representatives to discuss the situation regarding poisoning of dogs. Some important facts were established as follows:
– Approx 15 dogs have died so far. Others have been poisoned but have recovered. These dogs are from a cross-section of the Los Barriles community and the majority have been pets.
– The poisoning ‘hotspots’ appear to be close to the baseball/soccer field, in the first arroyo and there has also been an incident on the beach (somewhere between Loony Loop area and the first arroyo).
– The poison used is believed to be rat poison – according to the veterinarians.
– Federal and State laws explicitly forbid cruelty to animals. The penalties can be up to two years in jail/a fine. Art. 14 Ley de Proteccion de Los Animales Domesticos Para BC and Art. 342 Codigo Penal de BCS, https://goo.gl/vhD1g4. https://goo.gl/21pVbo.
– The police cannot take any action unless the crimes are reported to the police.

**What can the community do?**
– URGENT: If your dog has been poisoned (either died or recovered), please report this to the police AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Take someone with you who can speak Spanish. The police station is behind the Delegacion building. Unless we report this, the police are unable to take action.
– YOUR DOGS: The veterinarians advise that all dogs should be walked on leashes until the poisoning stops.
– SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: If you see anything suspect, report it as soon as possible. Commandante Juan Manuel:+52 1 612-157-6260. Office is 624-124-8103.
– POISONED: If your dog has been poisoned, contact Dr Gretel +52 1 624-129-5640 or Dr Cristobal +52 1 612-141-4261 immediately via ‘phone or WhatsApp. They will help advise.

**The team agreed the following actions:**
– The police will talk to the local community door-to-door about the law and why it is illegal to harm/kill animals and the penalties involved.
– New and official signs will be placed around town to let people know about the law and the penalties.
– Cameras will be installed in suspected ‘hotspots’.
