Road Report: Just wanted to let everyone know about the San
Felipe route. From the turn off at Chapala lake it is 37.5
kilometers of gravel until you pop back out onto pavement. It took
me 1:20 in a minivan and I probably could have gone faster, if you
have a truck with good tires, you could easily do it in under an
hour. 420 km from the turn off to the border. 8 hrs total. Across
the border it is a wander through a number of different highways and
i cut around the top of Joshua tree back to I-5. It added 150 extra
kilometers on the US side, So about even with the Mexico short cut
distance wise. I am sure it was quicker though as you didn't have
all the towns in the Ensenada route and avoided LA and San Diego as
well as the grueling Grapevine. Coco's corners is about half-way in
the construction and he has ice cold beer. ENJOY! (Courtesy of
