The Cost, Boss (Courtesy of the Gringo Gazette
posted 3/31/16)
The Federal Police have posted billboards throughout
the country informing the population on the cost of fines for
traffic infractions on federal highways. In our case that means the
fourlane, the corridor, the highway from hell. We’re giving it to
you in dollars, and because of the fluctuating exchange rate these
are approximate. The fine is cast in stone in pesos, however.
Car speeding: $289
Truck speeding: $412
Not using seat belts: $103
Using cell phone while driving: $83
Driving under the influence $825.
Fines may be paid online, at
www.ssp.gob.mx or at the
federal police headquarters, located on the toll road to the
international airport in San Jose.
Geeze, no wonder there’s so much bribery going on.
There is no way the average Mexican can pay this, it would bankrupt
the family. There is no way out but to try a bribe. City fines are
way more fair, very cheap. Be careful with the Feds anyway, they are
bad hombres.

Sorry, really hate to report this but we need to
know. Report is from The Ventana View 3/31/16, our
neighbors to the north.
This afternoon (Tues) about 4:30 at
north end of the village, beach front a couple was surprised by a
man inside their house .When they saw him he ran out waving a gun.He
took some money from a purse and after he was gone they found the
wires on there ATV we're hanging down. He was about 25 yrs old
wearing a long sleeve black and white checkered shirt and slim build
.The police said the same guy stole a quad at gun point. This I
cannot confirm. Also last night there was an attempted thrift of
two quads in El Sargento. xrail2b@gmail.com
--------------------------
Just to give everybody a heads up. We have some slimy rats on the
loose in the village. Yesterday (Tues) someone came in to Ventana
Windsports Resort in the afternoon and drove away with one of our
quads parked on the inside of our resort. When one of our staff
gave chase he waved a gun at him and sped off. The police are
following leads, looks like they may have taken the Moto to La Paz.
Be on the lookout for a green Suzuki Eiger 400 & any suspicious
cabrones! Info@ventanawindsports.com

Wednesday's Open Mic night at La Fogada was one of
the best of the season. The strong central core was there as well as
some old favorites returning and more than one surprise. If you have
not been there you have missed some good music! Thank you to
all the musicians who provide such wonderful entertainment for our
community as well as donating their tips to help the East Cape Guild
send local kids to school.

California Car Registration: Most popular answers for auto
registration and smog exemption. 1. Register in Clay County, South
Dakota. 2. File Form 5103 and/or Form 256 with California DMV. 3. Go

Telmex: I had the following interaction with Telmex regarding
the internet service. Perhaps others will find this informative and
if others are experiencing similiar issues, many contacts with
Telmex will move them to improve our service.
A couple of weeks ago, my internet service became
almost unusable. I was getting a download speed under 1mb/sec. At
first I assumed it was my modem and procured and installed a new one
which worked better for a few days, then the problem got worse. I
contacted Telmex, again, and they performed a diagnostic and
determined that the problem was in my line and finally sent a
technician who made some repairs to my line coming in from the
street. He also replace the modem (which I had just replaced) and my
service was restored, however, my internet speed is still
unacceptable. I am getting a download speed of around 1.5mbs. The
technician told me the problem was the telmex cables which are old
and need to be replaced. There is also talk of fiberoptic, which
apparently is in La Paz and Cabo, but he didn’t think that would
happen any time soon.
I contacted Telmex again. They ran another diagnostic
and determined that my speed was unacceptably low and filed a
report. Not sure what this will accomplish, but if others are
experiencing the same slow speed, maybe if Telmex receives multiple
complaints they will be moved to at least replace the existing
cables until such time as we are lucky enough to get fiber optic.

Looking for a couple of people to help with the "Fiddles for Kids"
program. We want to get some fiddles in the hand of the local kids.
There is a pretty good fiddle tradition here, but it is mostly older
players. We already have an instructor and a luthier. We now need
some motivated, preferably bi lingual, people to help get the
program going. Pleas reply to
