Asociacion de Artes KIDS SATURDAY CRAFT DAY is back!!!
We are looking for some folks that want to come and help with our
once a month craft class. The class is on one Saturday a month from
1:30 - 3:30 - the first class being Feb 14. (You will get done in
plenty of time do do Valentine's Day celebrations!) Our project will
be related to Valentines day and we will also educate them the
history behind the day.
No craft experience or Spanish needed to help. These
craft days is a huge part of the mission of the Asociacion de Artes.
Art is not part of the curriculum of the school system in Mexico,
and this is one of the kids only exposures to art or crafts. We are
always surprised how artistic the kids are and we have a great time.
Please join us for a great time working with the kids. Our other
dates this spring are:
March 14, April 11 and May 9 - so mark your calendars!!!

The
Rotary Club of Los Barriles Cabo Este is pleased to announce the
2015 Amistad Award winners. The Los Barriles Rotary Club established
the Amistad Award to recognize outstanding contributions to the East
Cape community. Through the efforts of the recipient the quality of
life in the East Cape region will have been significantly improved.
Specific Criteria:
Demonstrated commitment in the East Cape community to fostering a
better quality of life.
Must have significantly impacted the community within one or more of
the general fields of Health, Education, Economic Development, Arts
and Culture, Environmental Issues, Conservation, Children’s Welfare,
Senior Care, Philanthropy, or General Community Service.
Must be recommended by a community member or members.
Must be a resident of the East Cape.
Their work cannot be within the confines of government or religion
(Rotary International guidelines).
This year’s award recipients are Jack and Marty Lentz and the Valdez
Family.
The Lentz’s have owned a home in Los Barriles for over 18 years.
Over this period of time they have opened their house to many
community fundraisers and been instrumental in the development of
our medical, dental, education and arts services. As charter members
of Rotary, they have assisted in the development of the children’s
technology center, the disaster relief efforts and the numerous
projects Rotary undertakes. The Lentz’s have also helped
develop the Lord of the Wind kiteboarding competition and have
helped build it into one of the premier events in the world.
The Valdez family has owned and operated Buena Vista Beach Resorts
for over 35 years. As pioneers of our community they have opened
their doors to many community projects and hosted many charitable
events. From the 5k race to Casino Night to the Children fishing
tournaments their resort is always open to help. Not only do they
give of their Resort but over the years have taken leadership
positions in many organizations helping to better our community.

a. Yesterday afternoon my husband and I
were returning back from Punta Pescadero on the beach road on quads
when a VW sand rail came up from behind at a fast pace. When driving
on quads, the noise from the engine, does not allow you to hear
upcoming vehicles when before we knew he was there, allowing us to
get further over, he just completely blew by with nothing less than
a shower of dust and gravel in our face and his vehicle being inches
from our quads.
Being that quads are noisy and much smaller than sand rails, dune
buggy’s, truck and cars, it would be wise for those vehicles to slow
down to pass and make sure the quads know you are there. We are just
asking for a little common curiosity out there.... And maybe prevent
a terrible accident. Signed, Still shaking.....
