Rotary’s only fundraiser to raise
money for our community projects is Lord of the Winds. Friday is our
live Auction with a Professional Auctioneer. We will have the
Auction at the Reggae Party at the SPA Buena Vista Hotel. The

BAJA NIGHT SKY #70 for
January 12, 2015 -- Comet Lovejoy (1) If you own a pair of
binoculars, Monday, January 12, look for Comet Lovejoy around
8:30pm. At this time it will be exactly in the south between 7 and 8
fists above the horizon. Each evening it will move farther to the
northwest. (2) From 6:30-6:50pm is the best time to look for Venus &
Mercury low in the west. They are about half a degree apart for a
few nights with Mercury just below Venus. (3) At 5:30am this week,
Crux, the Southern Cross, stands exactly on the south point of the
horizon. If you have never seen it, this is your best chance. Famous
for guiding mariners in the Southern Hemisphere, Crux disappears
from view not too far north of the Cape Region. With binoculars,
look for the colorful open cluster of 100+ very young stars known as
the Jewel Box just below Mimosa, the left cross-bar star, at the 4
o'clock position. (4) There will be a bright Iridium Satellite Flare
over La Ventana on Tuesday evening at 6:50:08pm in the NE. It will
be high in the sky, about 6 fists at arm's length. Look for the
faint satellite moving from south to north 10 or so seconds before
