The 2nd Annual Los Cabos Charter Boat Classic returns November 18 - 21. This one-of-a-kind tournament is free to enter for anyone who registers online and has booked a charter boat out of East Cape, San Jose or Cabo. $40,000 ($10k a day) in cash and prizes for biggest fish in men’s, women’s and youth divisions will be given out over the 4 days. Anglers can choose to fish just one or up to all 4 days. We actually had two winners from East Cape last year. One was the Day 2 Junior Angler and the other was the largest wahoo on day one. I'm hoping we can have even more this year! Buenavista Beach Resort is the East Cape hosting site. Visit their event website for all the details: www.loscaboscharterboatclassic.com

The construction project 14 miles south of Loreto at the Mirador is FINISHED with new paving and the HWY is OPEN once again with no delays. They are still working on the wall and sidewalk along the eastern edge with a large paved area for parking. They are also securing the western hillside with wire to prevent loose rocks from coming down onto the Hwy in the future. fuelpusher2@hotmail

Baseball Day Camp Date Set!  We have set the date! Saturday, November 22, 9am – 3pm for the Baseball Day Camp in Campomento – for the Campomento, Santa Cruz and Los Cuevas school kids ages 6 – 14 yrs. The date was changed to a weekend because we had requests from several of the fathers wanting participate. We need the fathers to be able to continue with the training, so this is good.
The camp will start with basics. Hitting, Catching and Throwing/Pitching. Each kid will go through every station. We will serve lunch of Hot dogs, cooked by the mothers.
     How can you help?
We need cookies - homemade or store bought for lunch AND granola bars for morning snacks.
We still need volunteers for our ‘coaches’. Spanish knowledge great, but not necessary as we will have translators.
We even need folks to help pass out shirts for each kid and get kids from station to station.
Cash donations to help with food expenses
More baseball equipment is always welcome
We will have donated equipment so each community/school will be able to have a set – including catchers gear!
This is a busy Saturday with Monte Carlo night, but we ended the camp at 3pm so all of us could get home get ready for the night – and you don’t have to cook as Monte Carlo Night includes your dinner!
Please contact me if you have any equipment, or can help with volunteering, food or just have questions. Chris jonandchris@juno.com  124-8054
Help the Art Association start an ongoing Baseball Day camp in our Eastcape area!

ANSWERS - DISCUSSIONS- This category must have name and/or email address.

a.  Cell Phone Discussion:

          1)  Verizon and Sprint are CDMA carriers in the US and Mexico. Those carriers are available only in La Paz and Cabo. They do charge a fee for service in those areas. Verizon is slowly departing the CDMA network but I'm not sure even the new phones are compatible with the local GSM networks. TMobile and ATT are available through roaming service provided by TelCel and MoviStar. ATT offers a reasonably priced Viva Mexico Plan but you have to press them to make sure it's still available. Remember their "North American Plan" is history. TMobile with certain plans offers free text and data at 2G speeds. TMobile does have a reduced price voice roaming plan for Mexico. The cheapest is a non-contract carrier - Republic Wireless. They use the Sprint Network in the US; that will not work in Mexico but it will connect through your wireless network at home for around $8 per month. You can change your plan up to twice a month. All plans give you unlimited text, voice and data. Their standard 3G plan in the US is under $30 per month. With Republic Wireless you have unlimited calling to and from the US over WiFi. Personally, I have ATT and Republic Wireless phone service.
Remember, most carriers charge a huge premium for international data. If you don't have an international data plan with your carrier, turn the data off. thecomputerguy (thecomputerguy@usa.com)

            2)  There have been questions about which US company has the best cell service in Baja. I suggest you look into getting a Telcel SIM for your US phone. We have iPhone 4S and a 5C through Verizon in California. When we arrive Baja, we simply remove the Verizon SIMs and install the Telcel SIMs. It’s dramatically cheaper than US plans, ca. MXN$2/minute. US plans for Baja are expensive at USD$0.75/min. The good thing is you never get shocked by how much it cost when you get your bill; if you run out of Telcel minutes, it simply stops working for calls; but you can recharge by telephone or at OXXO stores. Or you can buy a simple Nokia for MXN$300. The only complication with either of these is that you need to tell friends/family your Telcel number.
